Family Managed Care

Increasingly, families in Calgary are hiring staff privately to assist their family members. Wages are negotiable with each family. If are interested in any of the following opportunities, please forward your resume to Calgary Community Living Society:

• Several families are looking for support partners who have ideas for volunteer and employment opportunities, and who are able to support their son or daughter in these pursuits full or part time.
• Young adult, mid-20's, requires support to participate in a weekly evening recreation session lasting 10 weeks. Prefer someone who is available to attend each week for the duration.
• Part time day support required for a young adult looking for part time paid employment around large trucks or construction vehicles.

CCLS is on the move and we need your help!

The Calgary Community Living Society "CCLS" has provided leadership to families who have children with a developmental disability since 1984. Though it is not "always" intentional, we find ourselves in a period in which the power to define what a service will be like is very much in the hands of the people who run our systems more so than most ordinary people including service users, families, friends and interested people in the community realize. We began 24 years ago creating services in reaction to the dominant institutionalized services of that day and we find that yet again these services have evolved into another version of the institutional human service hierarchies.

CCLS believes that consumers of services, families and others close to them are and must be the core designers of directors of the own supports because again and again systems have turned against the interests of families. CCLS knows that there are many good people wasting away within very poor service systems. CCLS knows that there are many good people wasting away within very poor service systems. CCLS wants to change this for everyone - we want to put the horse in front of the cart where it belongs. To this end, we propose a new way of doing business. We want to acquire our own family friendly meeting and office facility. This facility will have room outside for adequate parking, and inside - about 5000 square feet of spcace to include our present collaborators and comfortable meeting space for large and small groups to help us devise new ways of supporting the dreams and visions of families in the Calgary Community.

We have moved to a new, temporary, location. We will continue to work towards our goal of purchasing our own facility within 3 years. We need the help of our members to help coordinate fundraising.
